Hi Carol!
Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question. Because we have a
special needs son, we always need a wheelchair when visiting Walt Disney World. We have sometimes
rented one at the Theme Parks. This is an easy process and, even though it is subject to availability, we have never had a problem. You should know, however, that you are not allowed to take wheelchairs from one Park to the next--so if you are Park Hopping, you will need to return your wheelchair at the first Park and rent another one at the next Park (you can simply show your receipt at the second Park--you will not be required to pay again) which can sometimes be challenging logistically for us. To avoid that (because we always Park Hop!) we usually rent from one of
Disney's Featured Providers--privately owned local companies who handle wheelchair rentals. They are fantastic! I always call in advance and they deliver the wheelchair directly to our hotel where it is ready and waiting when we arrive. Likewise, they come to pick it back up after our trip ends. This has worked well for us as it allows us to keep the wheelchair day and night (since my son needs it everywhere--not just in the Parks.) I would highly recommend all of these companies. They are incredible!
As you are planning, I hope you will come back to see us with any other planning needs. We love to help Guests as they make plans for their magical
Walt Disney World vacations.
Have a magical day!
