Should I rent a car for my vacation? We are staying at the All-Star Movie resort, and I am traveling alone with my 3 boys (11, 10 and 3). I've heard it can take over an hour to get to a park, and I do plan to take breaks in the afternoon. Thoughts?

    Hi Emily!

I usually travel to Walt Disney World with my own vehicle, and the advantages include time saved and added convenience.

While Disney transportation has, for the most part, been very easy to use while bringing my little ones along (and their bags and double stroller), I think if you have the option to rent a car, you'd probably find it to be an asset during your vacation.

With a rental car, you would be on your own schedule. Without waiting for the next available bus for example, you could easily get to most parks within about 25 minutes. In addition, you'll save time during those mid day breaks, since the travel back and forth might cut into play time or rest time otherwise. I also like to dine at other resorts, and if you would like to explore the other Disney resorts, relying on Disney bus transportation means you'll likely make a couple of stops and transfers before you reach your destination.

I also understand that traveling alone with two children and a preschooler is demanding. Way to go, Emily, on being super-mom! I think renting a car would be a nice way to treat yourself for all the effort you are putting into making this a fun and magical vacation for you and your boys. This way, you can relax a little and not have to worry about getting up extra early or getting out the door those extra 15-20 minutes early in order to not miss the next bus. I hope this helps and that you have a magical vacation after all. Let me know if you need any more help in your vacation planning!
