When renewing an annual pass, how does the "renew at a later date" option work?

Hello, Michael! From one Magic Key holder to another, welcome to planDisney! I recently renewed my family’s Magic Key passes, so you’ve got a friend in me to help with this.

When renewing a Magic Key pass, you may notice a “Renew This Pass Later” option in the dropdown menu when choosing from the available pass types. This is helpful if, for example, you manage multiple Magic Key passes on your account and want to renew them at different times within the renewal window or in separate transactions.

I manage four Magic Key passes– for me, my husband, and my two kids. As a California resident, I can pay for passes in full or split the cost into 12 monthly payments. We choose to pay for one of our passes in full at renewal to lower our monthly payment (since it's the cost of three passes split over 12 months instead of four). In this case, I complete two transactions during renewal. I’d select the “later date” option for the pass I’m paying in full, first completing the transaction to set up the monthly payment for three of my passes, and then doing a transaction for the remaining one.

Another use case is when you manage two Magic Key passes and want to pay both in full, but you prefer not to do so in a single transaction. Perhaps you want to space out the transactions over a few weeks so the payments aren’t processed at the same time.

All this to say, the “Renew This Pass Later” option gives you flexibility when managing multiple passes on your account. The important thing to keep in mind, Michael, is that you must renew your Magic Key before it expires. Once the expiration date passes, you’d no longer be able to renew your pass. Instead, you’d need to purchase a new Magic Key pass, choosing from the ones currently available for sale.

Michael, I hope these examples are helpful to you. This is another great year to be a Magic Key holder. There's a lot to look forward to, including the continued 70th Anniversary Celebration, Lunar New Year festivities, the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival, and the start of “Bluey’s Best Day Ever!” at Disneyland. Take a look at the calendar of events on the Disney Parks Blog and get ready for lots of fun visits!
