How do you renew a disneyland Magic Key with a disney gift card?

    Hi Jamie!

Welcome to planDisney! We're so happy that you stopped by, and thank you so much for sending this Disneyland Resort Magic Key annual Passholder question to us hEAR!

Oh boy! I'm so excited that you're ready for another 12 months of magic as one of the coolest Mouseketeers in the Kingdom! The official verbiage is that Disney Gift Cards are allowed as payment for existing Magic Key renewals. However, it does seem to be a bit tricky to get this form of Mickey money to go through. (My guess is because Magic Keys, especially those on a payment plan, are also tied to a credit card for those monthly drafts, or because the online and in-app payment systems only allow for one method of payment, etc.)

I have hEARd of other Guests, including some of my Disneyland panel pals, who successfully renewed their Keys with a Disney Gift Card in person at the Ticket Booths. This would mean that you'd need a Park Pass Reservation on a day connected with your original pass, or be willing to make a pit stop by the parks on a non-Disney day. You could also try to call in your payment by speaking with a Cast Member at the Magic Key helpline. Their phone number is (714) 781-7277.

If this were me and I were unable to complete the renewal over the phone or stop by in person before my current pass expires, I'd go ahead and make the purchase online or in the Disneyland Mobile App with my credit card. Your Disney Gift Card will not expire and can be used all across the parks throughout the yEAR on everything from Dining to merchandise, even on a stay at a Disneyland Resort Hotel. You can even use it towards a visit to Walt Disney World Resort, Aulani - a Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii, and a Disney Cruise Line vacation, or on ShopDisney.com!

Pro Tip: While Disney Gift Cards cannot be stored in the Disneyland Mobile App the same way as your linked credit card for easy in-app purchasing, a lot of Guests save their gift card numbers in a note in their phone. They then copy and paste the digits into the Disneyland App when it comes time to complete a Disneyland Mobile Food & Beverage Order, Merchandise Mobile Checkout, or Disney Genie+ purchase.

I'm so sorry that this might not have been the exact solution you were hoping for, Jamie, but I hope it helped to stEAR you on a path towards your renewal! Be sure to follow the official planDisney Panel Instagram account where we're sharing all kinds of tips and tricks. Thank you again for reaching out to us!!
