Hi Glenn!
Welcome to planDisney! Thank you so much for sending your
Disneyland Resort Magic Key pass question to us hEAR!
This is a great question. I love that you want to be prepared! I'm so sorry to say that at this time my official answer is "We're not sure at the moment." The
Magic Key program is still so new (it's coming up on its first anniversary this August!), and there hasn't been any information officially released by Mickey about when or how
renewals will happen.
However, if I were to guess,
Magic Key renewals will probably be pretty similar, if not identical, to the previous Disneyland Resort Annual Passholder program, which was sunset after the historic pandemic closure. Annual Pass renewals really just seamlessly extended your original expiration date by 365 days. Guests were allowed to renew their existing pass anytime in the 30 days before their current expiration and would finish out their original contract. Then, the new yEAR would pick right up without a pause or disruption in service or need to validate anything.
hEARs an example: If you purchased your pass on August 16, your expiration day would be August 15. You could renew anytime between July 15 and August 15 which would extend your expiration date to August 15 of next year. (Unless the next yEAR contained a Leap Day, in which case the new expiration date would be August 14.)
Your best bet will be to keep up with the
Disney Parks Blog, which is the best source of the newest Disney Parks news, straight from Mickey himself! You can even
follow them across all of your social media networks!
I hope that this helped to clEAR things up a bit, Glenn! Be sure to check out the
official planDisney Panel Instagram account for even more tips and tricks. And if you have any more Disneyland Resort planning questions, We're All Ears!
