I am registered for the W&D and coming in the day before to stay for a week. Should we avoid the parks on Friday and Saturday to save my legs for the race? My kids are 3 and 6, so we want to do as much as we can, but I don't want to ruin my race either

Hi Jenna!  The Wine and Dine is my favorite runDisney race!  You are going to love it!

That is a great question and one that I am seeing frequently on this panel.  It's also one that I ponder myself every trip I take there for a race!  From personal experience, I have found that as long as I have properly trained for the race, then spending some time at the parks the day or two before does not adversely affect my run.  I don't try to open and close the parks, and we don't do our normal "full-speed ahead" approach to hitting all of the attractions, but we usually visit three or four of our favorite things at our favorite parks.

It is really hard to be on Disney property and not go to the parks ASAP!  I do think you are wise in having the week after the race as your vacation.  A full week of park-hopping can leave even Olympic-caliber athletes with weary legs!  Plus, it's always better to enjoy the parks with my family when I don't have any pre-race nerves and jitters, and that medal is already shining around my neck.  It's also a lot more fun trying different foods that I wouldn't normally eat with a race looming.

So, I would just be sure to be well-trained for the run, and don't worry about spending some time at the parks.  Just keep in mind that you will have time after the race to do things to, so just like the race itself, it's all about the PACE!
