Ahoy, Barbara! Welcome to planDisney, where we aim to answer all of your questions about Disney Cruise Line to set you on course for smooth sailing during your upcoming vacation.
Although fish extenders are very common on Disney cruises, those types of gift exchanges are actually completely organized by guests and not officially sponsored by Disney Cruise Line in any way. The name comes from the fact that each stateroom has a fish, seahorse, or other nautical creature placed on the wall just outside the door that acts as a type of mail holder. That is where you will receive some official information from Disney Cruise Line, including the envelope with your
Key to the World Cards on embarkation day, but it is also where guests hang their fish extenders. The fish extenders come in many different forms, but essentially serve as storage pockets for other guests to drop off their gift exchange items or leave some unexpected pixie dust just for fun. Hanging fish extenders from those nautical themed hooks are not a problem, but beware of the other
stateroom door decoration regulations.
Since the fish extender exchanges are not sponsored by Disney Cruise Line, there is no official registration or paperwork that you need to fill out prior to sailing or once you step onboard. If you are interested in participating in one of the exchanges, then you will need to look for a group online via social media, such as Facebook or other forums, in advance. You can search for fish extenders and then be sure to find a group for your specific itinerary, including your
ship and exact sailing dates.
I do suggest finding a fish extender group as soon as possible since your sailing is scheduled for next month. If you have any other questions before you set sail, then you are always welcome back here at planDisney. Happy sailing!
