Ahoy there, Laurel! Welcome aboard planDisney! I'm so excited that you and your crew will be making a stop at
Disney Castaway Cay on your upcoming Disney Cruise Line vacation! It truly is a tropical paradise, and no matter what you spend your day doing, you're sure to have an incredible time!
Whether you're going to be trying for a new PB or just can't wait to get some sand in your running shoes, the Castaway Cay 5k is one of the most enjoyable ways to run on vacation! Did you know that part of the run takes you down the island's old airstrip and toward Serenity Bay? I always like to say the 5k is part run, part island tour, and part appetite-generating exercise, haha!
The reason you aren't seeing the Castaway Cay 5K in the list of activities for your day on the island is that it is not being run as a group start race - so Guests who wish to run the 5k can still do so on their own - no registration is required! The start line is located right near the cabanas at the family beach near the bike rental station, and the course stays marked all day! When you complete the race, be sure to check the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app for where you can pick up your finisher medal when you return to the ship!
Once you've done the run, it's time to have some fun, and Disney Castaway Cay has plenty of it in store! Actually, since the 5k can currently be run at any time of day, it's the perfect opportunity to book a
Port Adventure like a glass-bottom boat or submarine adventure and then wade on over to run the 5K while you've got your adrenaline pumping! Or, you could do the opposite and run your race first thing then reward yourself with the most incredible views of the ship, the island, the impossibly clear water, and the horizon while parasailing!
No matter which order you decide, be sure to make time for a bit of relaxation, too...after all this is your vacation!
Here's hoping that has you ready to lace-up your backup shoes (seriously, don't bring your best running shoes unless you'd like to bring home some sand as a souvenir...you only make that mistake once, let me tell you...Thank you so much for your question, and if you have any others as you continue to plan, please sail my way again here at planDisney!
On your mark, get set, GO!
