Hello Robert, and welcome to planDisney!
Allow me to first offer a sincere thank you for your service. Your dedication is truly appreciated.
I reached out to my friend and alumni panelist
Kristen, who is a whiz when it comes to all the ins and outs of military discounts. I wanted to be sure I was giving you the most up-to-date information.
There are actually different types of discounted Walt Disney World tickets for military members. The first is the
Disney Military Promotional Tickets offered at Walt Disney World Resort, and also available at some base ticket offices. These tickets are available to active or retired members of the U.S. Military, which includes reservists and 100% service-connected disabled veterans.
The second type is discounted standard
Walt Disney World tickets, sold at base ticket offices. This discount is not available at Walt Disney World ticket windows. With the John McCain Defense Authorization Act, eligibility was expanded to include additional veterans. My understanding is that your Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC) must be updated to display "MWR, Commissary" to be eligible to purchase tickets at your base office. Contact your nearest base ticket office for more information.
Shades of Green is an Armed Forces Recreation Center resort on Disney property with a ticket office on site. Eligible service members and veterans with proper ID are welcome to purchase tickets there as well.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions. We are always happy to help!
