Hi Brian,
It sounds to me like a villa at one of the Disney Vacation Club resorts will be perfect for you and your family. I can assure you that these are all nice and clean to the very high Disney standard!
Disney's BoardWalk is one of my favorite areas at Walt Disney World. I love the hustle and bustle of the Crescent Lake area. By staying at a resort in this area, you do have access to lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Not only can you walk to many nearby resorts, but you can also walk to Epcot and to Disney's Hollywood Studios. In this Crescent Lake area, you could stay at either
Disney's BoardWalk Villas or
Disney's Beach Club Villas. Both of these are charming and lovely resorts, with great themes and amenities. At these locations, you would need to stay in a two-bedroom villa due to the layout and capacity of the villas at these resorts.
Since you asked for a moderately priced option, let me give you another thought. Consider
Disney's Old Key West Resort. This resort, themed to the Florida Keys, is relaxing and peaceful. The villas here are huge, and as a result, your traveling party of five could fit in a one-bedroom villa. This resort also tends to be priced lower. The trade off is location. You will not be in immediate walking distance of lots of shops and dining; however, you are quite close to Downtown Disney, which has tons of shopping and dining.
In all of the villas that I have suggested, you will find a separate living area, full kitchen, and a washer and dryer in the villa.
I hope that these thoughts are helpful for you, Brian. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions while planning your magical vacation!
