Do you recommend water shoes while swimming and playing in the water at Castaway Cay?

Hi Christine! I'm glad you asked this question. Personally I've never needed to wear water shoes at Castaway Cay as I feel the white powdery sands there feel great on my feet! However, I'm originally from Cuba and therefore have always felt quite comfortable not wearing water shoes when I go to the beach. There are some broken sea shells in the sands on the beach, but no rocks that I ever encountered on the family beach. You'll find some rocks on the narrow pathways under the palm trees that lead from the beach to the sidewalks. Therefore, if you are used to wearing water shoes, or want to be more careful in protecting your feet in or out of the water, then by all means bring them along! I know that the sand can get quite hot at times too and I've seen many people wearing water shoes at Castaway Cay. Water shoes might also come in handy when your family is ready to enjoy any of the Dining Venues at Castaway Cay. The roadways can get quite hot and you'll need to wear some type of foot wear to comfortably walk on the pathways. For instance, I always put on a pair of sandals when I visit "She Sells Sea Shells... and Everything Else," or when walking my children to Scuttle's Cove. Please let me know if I may be able to assist you with any other questions. Have a wonderful time on your Disney Cruise!
