can you recommend a travel agent? I have never been to Disney World and looking at all the options is a little overwhelming. I would like to visit for 5 days with 3 adults and one child age 7 sometime in July of this year. thanks

    Hello, Jennifer! Welcome to planDisney!

Planning a Walt Disney World Resort vacation can seem overwhelming, but luckily for you and other Guests feeling the same way, Disney has multiple resources to take advantage of to help you along the way!

While I can’t recommend a travel agent, I can tell you that my planDisney panelist friends and I are well-versed in all things Disney, and we can assist you in every aspect of your vacation planning. Allow me to make some recommendations on how to break down your vacation planning so you can slowly get more comfortable!

First, let’s take a look at the Walt Disney World map. You will notice that there are four (4) Theme Parks (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom), two (2) water parks (Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Disney’s Blizzard Beach), and places to shop and eat (Disney Springs and Disney’s BoardWalk).

Once you get a lay of the land, you should begin researching which Disney Resorts Collection hotel you should book. All Disney hotels offer complimentary transportation, so getting to and from the parks is a breeze. Not only should you consider your budget, but you should look at things like theming and proximity to the parks. If your son is interested in all the animated characters, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort could be the one. Is he a fan of Pirates of the Caribbean? Set your sails towards Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort! Or maybe he is like my son and watches The Incredibles on repeat. Then, the newly re-themed rooms at Disney’s Contemporary Resort would make his day! I love the convenience of walking to and from EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, so the resorts located around Disney’s BoardWalk are my favorites. Disney’s Beach Club Resort has the best resort pool, in my opinion, so it is always high on our list.

Next, you need to select your Theme Park Tickets. For a five (5) day visit, I would suggest, at a minimum, a 3-Day Ticket. Next, you must decide between visiting 1 Park Per Day or the Park Hopper Option, allowing you to see multiple parks daily. There are other options to add on that would allow access to the Water Parks, but that is a topic for another day. I would try a 4-Day Ticket with Park Hopper Option so you can try to get as much into your vacation as possible.

Once you have chosen your Disney Resorts Collection hotel and Theme Park Ticket type, you will want to start thinking about dining options and maximizing your time in the parks by minimizing your time in the lines with Disney Genie+ Service. I could write a book about both topics, so submit another question when you are ready, and I will walk you through these two topics. I would also like to point out the available Vacation Planning page. It is a great tool that will walk you through the booking process.
This should be a great starting point for you, Jennifer. Remember to chip away at the planning little by little, come back to planDisney with more questions, and have fun along the way! My best childhood memories were sitting around the dinner table with my parents and brother, discussing which hotel to choose, which rides we couldn’t miss, and where we wanted to book character breakfasts! If you want more recommendations, I’d be more than happy to walk you through everything!

    See you real soon!
