What do you recommend bringing into the parks- we have a 5 year old. And also- do you use a waist pack or a backpack? I don't want to look silly with a waist pack, but also dread the thought of carrying a backpack all day. Where do you put it when riding?

    Hi Melissa!

When you go anywhere with young children for the day, you know it's essential to take the essentials with you.  The very day you don't have something in particular is the particular day you will need that very thing!

I've never been a big fan of fanny packs.  I agree with you, they don't look so "cool" and do nothing to enhance our lovely figures!  However, if you only have a few things to take with you, they are nice since you can go hand and shoulder free and not have to worry, usually, about removing them for storage for most rides.

However, we tend to be backers of the backpack club.  We find that our "essentials" for the Parks need a little more space.  And, it's usually no problem at all to store the backpack for the various attractions we enjoy.  Storage space is usually provided, either under the seats or in special spots on or under the seats directly in front of you.

The things we usually take with us include:  Waterproof packaging for our tickets, money, credit cards, identification, mobile phones, cameras, etc...for storage on those wet rides!)  Plastic baggies are great for this, and we usually take a few extra in case we need them.  Wet wipes, hand sanitizer, sun screen, kleenex, and any medications needed go next.  If rain is in the forecast we take ponchos.  I usually pack a few small snacks for the kids, such as crackers, dried fruit, and fruit drinks.  And, for small children, I sometimes pack a change of clothes, just in case.  And, of course, I can't go anywhere without my compact, brush, and lipstick!

You may not find all of this necessary, but for us, we like to "be prepared" for almost anything.  You never know what amazing adventures you'll find yourself on in the Walt Disney World Parks!  Have a wonderful time!
