Would you recommend the Amphicar Tour from the Boathouse at Disney Springs? If yes, is it easy to get walk-up (day of) reservations or should I make an advanced reservation?

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Alexandra!

A Vintage Amphicar Tour at Disney Springs is on my bucket list, and it’s a dream of mine to share a tour with my retired-mechanic and boat-loving dad, who I think would just love it. I haven’t gone for a cruise yet, but I have done lots of #resEARch and am happy to share some thoughts about whether this unique boat tour is worth the price tag.

Did you know that Disney Springs is the only place in the entire world where Guests can go for a ride in one of these amphibious cars? They were briefly built in the early 1960’s, and they have a cool, vintage glamor about them. Sailing on a captain-led tour in a classic car? Pass the oversized sunglasses, please!

For me, the uniqueness factor is a big selling point. I think an amphicar tour would be a great way to celebrate a milestone birthday or event, or a place to snap one-of-a-kind graduation or anniversary photos. My dear friend and fellow Panelist Jennifer L. enjoyed her amphicar tour, and recommends going at sunset or night for extra ambience.

On the “possible cons” list, the $125 cost for a 20-minute tour (prices subject to change) is a big one. However, if you give or receive the tour as a gift, that makes the splurge feel like a fun treat. The other thing to consider is whether any smaller sailors in your party might get bored after a few minutes. I’ve heard from a few moms that their little ones just didn’t find it as cool as we might expect – though I can tell you that my 10-year-old really wants to do it, and Jennifer’s little guy loved it.

As for reservations, the Vintage Amphicar Tours are made day-of, in person at the dock podium or inside The BOATHOUSE BOATIQUE. Availability is first-come, first-served, and they seat 3-4 people maximum. If you present your receipt from dining at The BOATHOUSE you will receive a discount on the tour; currently the discount is $25 with a dining receipt or The BOATHOUSE BOUTIQUE receipt of $50 or more, though that discount is subject to change. Annual Passholder and Disney Vacation Club discounts may also apply.

I hope this helps you decide whether to take the plunge, Alexandra! Please sail on by again if you think of any further questions as you plan and dream.

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
    Robyn
