I've sailed both routes. I prefer the Eastern Caribbean due to the beauty of the port of St. Thomas and more days at sea.
The western ports seem to offer more adventurous shore excursions. For instance, divers might prefer to head on a Western cruise. Swimming with the sting rays in Grand Cayman is also a highlight for many cruisers.
Do you prefer more days at sea? If so, you'll want to choose the Eastern itinerary.
I would take a good look at the shore excursions offered at each port. See which ports offer the best options for your family. Are you hoping to shop, head to the beach or swim with dolphins? On the Western itinerary, I like to tour Mayan ruins. One of my favorite excursions was to Tulum. Visiting these ruins that overlook the ocean was a trip highlight . Sometimes the cost of
shore excursions can be costly. Which ports fit better into your vacation budget?
I'm so happy to hear that your first cruise with Disney was magical. Whether you sail the Eastern or Western Caribbean on your next voyage, you'll enjoy having the extra time on a Disney ship. Disembarkation day comes all too soon though even after seven nights.
Bon voyage!
