Hi there, Emilie! Welcome to planDisney! You are going to love having that Magic Key in your pocket to unlock incredible experiences in the year ahead. Let's get right to your question so you can start daydreaming about those park days!
I'm so happy to see you were able to purchase a
Magic Key when they resumed sales a few days ago. I know it was an unexpected announcement and sales opened and closed very quickly as many Guests were excited to jump at the chance to add a key to their collection. While eligible, theme park tickets can be
upgraded to Magic Keys, this option would need to be activated ahead of the purchase. Once keys are paid in full, the payment method cannot be changed retroactively. I know in the thrill of the moment of the keys going on sale, it may have been challenging to connect all of these dots! If you have specific questions about your situation or account, I highly recommend reaching out to the
Magic Key Guest Services team at (714) 781-7277. They are more than happy to help you!
While my magic wand does not allow for time travel back to before you made that purchase, I can provide a little insight into upgrades and some advice on what to do with what two-day ticket.
Upgrading from an eligible theme park ticket to a Magic Key can only be done if Magic Keys are open for new sales. While this is no longer the case, I hope it's helpful to know the "how-to" for next time! I went through this process myself just about a year ago and chose to upgrade my single-day ticket as soon as I scanned into the park. It was fairly easy to do with the upgrade option front and center on the home screen of my mobile app, but you could always head into "Tickets & Passes" if it doesn't reveal itself immediately. Single-day tickets must be upgraded on or before midnight on the day of use while multi-day tickets must be upgraded by midnight on or before the last valid day of use.
Ok, so where do we go from here? We take a good look at the expiration date on your
two-day ticket. You can find this in the ticket purchase confirmation email or if you open up your Disneyland Mobile App and head to the three-bar menu in the bottom right-hand corner. Tap into "Tickets & Passes", and just under the barcode, you should see the expiration. If it was purchased very recently on the Disneyland website, multi-day tickets do not expire until January 12, 2025! If it was purchased earlier this year, the date would be January 12, 2024. Either way, it's quite a long runway for that magic carpet! I would hold on tight to that ticket and know that when your key expires, you've still got a bit more magic in your pocket!
One other thing to note is that regular theme park tickets are not assigned until they are scanned for the very first time at those Main Entrance Gates. While you are asked to enter a name at the time of purchase, the Cast Member at the entrance will take a photo of the Guest scanning the ticket, and, at that moment, it is officially assigned and not transferable. Just something to think about if you have a friend that would like to hop on that magic carpet!
If you have any more questions, we are always here for you at planDisney!
Magic awaits!
