    Hello, I recently purchased a Disney gift card. When I took it out of its packaging, it ripped off part of its magnetic strip. The account # is still intact. Will Disney accept this gift card if I bring it?

    Welcome to planDisney! Oh dear, I'm so sorry to hear about the unfortunate incident with your Disney Gift Card. I definitely want you to be able to use your card to make some fun Disney purchases, so let's work together to figure out a solution!

    I did some research online and apparently, this isn't the first time that this has happened to a guest. As I see it, you have a few options available to you:

    • Since the account number is still intact, you could take the balance of your torn gift card and transfer it to another gift card at DisneyGiftCard.com. Of course, this means that you'll need to have another gift card on hand to which you'll move the balance. I've actually heard that some guests carry around a spare card to transfer funds to in case the main card is lost or stolen. They can easily just do this on their phones. You will need the account number and EAN of the cards.
    • Use the gift card only for online purchases. Once again, you'll need the account number and EAN, but it can be entered for purchases on shopdisney.com or at the Parks. You can use the card digitally for tickets, mobile food orders, Merchandise Mobile Checkout, or purchasing Genie+. 
    • Go ahead and bring the card to the Parks with you. I read about one situation where a Cast Member covered the magnetic strip with receipt paper to scan it and that worked! I'm not sure, but they may be able to enter the number manually as well.
    • If you return to the store where you originally purchased the card, they may even exchange it for you.

    I'm sure the Cast Members will be very understanding of your situation and I hope you will be able to use your gift card and make some magical purchases when you visit the Parks. I always like seeing what new Haunted Mansion merchandise has been released and was able to pick up some wonderful Haunted Mansion themed plates on my last trip!
