I am a recently divorced father of two. I have a girl 12 and boy 7. We are planning on our second trip to Disney this summer (first for my son). Any tips for 1 adult splitting the time up between what a 7 year old wants to do and the 12 year old?

    Hi, Guy!

You’re going to have a wonderful trip to the Disneyland Resort with your kids this summer. With so many new additions, particularly Cars Land in Disney California Adventure Park and the upcoming Fantasy Faire in Disneyland Park, you’re sure to find plenty of attractions and entertainment your daughter and son will both enjoy!

I recommend having a touring plan in mind before your visit. Make time for the three of you to sit down and check out the Disneyland Resort website, including the attractions list, together. See what each land has to offer and let the kids create wish lists, including a few “must-dos.” You may find that there’s more overlap in their interests than you anticipated, and it’s a great way to get a jump on the planning and excitement. Most importantly, each child will feel like his or her desires were equally heard and worked into the family’s schedule, which will make for smooth days in the parks.

If there are attractions your son isn’t tall enough to ride but your daughter would like to experience (and you feel comfortable allowing her to ride alone), be sure to utilize Disney FASTPASS Service or the Single Rider Line when available to reduce the amount of time you’re separated. If there is an attraction your son wants to ride while you and your daughter enjoy a snack, he does meet the theme parks’ minimum age requirement for riding alone, which is 7 years old. You may want to check out the list of height requirements for attractions online before your visit so you’ll know what your kids’ options are.

I hope this helps, Guy. Please feel free to ask me any other questions you have as you continue to plan your Disneyland Resort visit!

    Wishing you magic,
