Hi! I recently was just diagnosed with Sciatic Nerve inflammation and I in a lot of pain when I walk. It looks like I'll end up renting a scooter for the parks. Is there anything I should know? For example, do I need to alert guest services? Thx!

    Hi Mark!

Thank you for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

I am very sorry to hear about your diagnosis. My mom has something similar and I know it can be painful for her to walk for an extended period of time. You will definitely want to have a wheelchair or electric conveyance vehicle (ECV) on your trip.

Here is a link to information about renting an ECV at Walt Disney World Resort. I am copying some of the most important details below:
*ECVs are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
*Reservations are not accepted, and quantities are limited. Please plan to arrive early.
*Guests must be 18 years of age to rent ECVs. A photo ID is required.
*The maximum weight is 450 pounds. ECVs are not designed to hold more than one person.
*You are welcome to bring and use your own ECV throughout Walt Disney World Resort.

As you can see, you won't need to do anything in advance, but you may consider getting to your destination early to ensure that you are able to rent one for the day.

I recommend that you visit this link about Guest Services for Mobility Disabilities at Walt Disney World. It has a ton helpful information about getting around the parks in an ECV.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions as you plan your trip.
