Hi, I recently booked a trip to disney world, but I have found a cheaper option for park tickets. I only paid a down payment (for the tickets and disney hotel rooms), not the full amount. If I cancel only my park tickets, will I get a refund?

Hey Howdy Hey Jason and welcome to planDisney!

Alight Jason, looks like we are closing in on the last few months before your big trip to Walt Disney World Resort! I bet you all are getting so excited about your upcoming trip and it sounds like you are getting a lot of planning done. Getting down to the specifics of your question, well it depends.

Considering the downpayment situation, it sounds like you purchased a vacation package with Disney which includes your hotel and tickets. That requires only a $200.00 down payment and the total amount due is 30 days before your date of arrival. You can modify your reservation at any time before your final payment with no penalty as well as cancel the whole thing and get your deposit back as well as any money you have already paid towards your vacation.

Now that you have tickets you were able to purchase outside of Disney, you would have to go into your My Disney Experience account to try and modify your reservation to a room-only reservation. You MIGHT be able to do this by modifying your existing reservation and just taking the tickets off, but more than likely, you will have to cancel your vacation package and rebook with just a room-only reservation. Taking into consideration how fast things have been booking up, I would make sure there is still availability in the Disney Resort Collection hotel you wanted before canceling your package and rebooking the room-only reservation.

Most of these things you should be able to do through your My Disney Experience account. Simply log on and go to your page where you see the "My Plans, Reservations and Tickets" section. On the far right, you should see an option to Modify or Cancel your reservation. Click on that and follow the prompts. You also have the option to call Disney at (407) 939-1936 and a Cast Member can help you through this process.

The other thing to be aware of with the room-only reservation is that you are required to put a down payment equivalent to the first night's stay plus tax. The total amount would be due at the time of check-in. I am sure you are aware, but also make sure you link both the new room-only reservation and tickets to your My Disney Experience account and make your Theme Park Reservations to fully secure your vacation reservations.

A lot of steps but it can be done! Good luck with going through this process and if you do need some more guidance, feel free to reach out at the number above for help moving through this process with a Cast Member. Feel free to reach out on here as well if you have any other questions and we will be happy to help!

    Happy planning,
