We just received notice that there will be refurbishments during our stay at Animal Kingdom. I was already considering changing to the Art of Animation because of the more traditional food choices. Which hotel is best for toddlers?

    Erika:

There's a big difference in the accommodations at Animal Kingdom Lodge  versus those at Art of Animation. Unless you were told the refurbishments at AKL will close its pool or remove the animals from the savanna, I'd caution you to remain at AKL. The menu at Boma and Mara are varied with lots to be found for picky eaters. But your choice between these two resorts comes down mostly to whether you want real animals or animation. Although I prefer AKL, with the age of your children, either resort would be fine. If you know you'll be back to Disney several years, I'd choose Art of Animation while your children are young. They'll appreciate the animals at AKL both now and when their older but the older they get, the less AOA will offer appeal.

Both hotels would find themselves in my "best" category for toddlers. Other hotels that would make a "Best Hotel at Disney for Toddlers" list:

    • Best for naps: The Contemporary. Keep your child in his/her stroller and go from the Magic Kingdom or Epcot to the monorail and into your resort, on to the elevator and into your room without moving them!
    • Best for budget travelers: All-Star Movies. Your cheapest option with good movie theming throughout the resort. Good photo ops abound.
    • Best pool: Yacht Club or Beach Club. The large toddler pool boasts a sandy bottom so you can build sand castles in the cleanliness of pool water.
    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
