If we receive Magicband 2 for our upcoming November trip, can we choose to buy/use original Magicbands instead, or are we then require to use the newer version? The kids want the fun looking ones, but I am not sure if I can order the original ones instead?

    Hi Allison,

The complimentary MagicBands that guests at Walt Disney World resorts receive for each visit were updated at the beginning of 2017. All guests now receive the new design, which has a wider, flatter face with a removable disc that can be worn on a lanyard or carabiner instead of as a bracelet. It still comes in eight solid colors -- grey, blue, green, yellow, pink, orange, purple and red -- and can be customized with a name inside.

If you have MagicBands from a previous Walt Disney World vacation that are still active in your My Disney Experience account, you are welcome to use those instead or or in addition to the updated MagicBands. All active MagicBands are interchangeable. I frequently wear a different color each day of my visit. You also can decline new MagicBands in favor of ones you already have.

If your children prefer the specialty MagicBands, those can be purchased at the Disney Store, at the Shop Disney Parks app or at gift shops throughout Walt Disney World. Specialty MagicBands are available in both the original and updated styles.

Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Allison. Please let us know if you have any other questions as you prepare for your vacation. Enjoy your time with your family!
