We are really on a tight budget and I'm trying to calculate every cost and hope there are no hidden fees. Is tipping mandatory at table service restaurants when we have to dining plan? If so is it charges to our room, or do we pay it right there?

Hello Lisa and thanks for bringing such an important question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.
You are very wise indeed to be estimating the cost of gratuities and including them within your budget; it's quite often a forgotten or at least hidden vacation expense.
In my experience I prefer to leave tips in cash, out of pocket, as I go - that way I get to keep a close eye on my spending!
However it is certainly possible to charge gratuities back to your Resort room if you've linked a valid credit card to your MagicBands
Generally speaking for good service at Table Service restaurants I would expect to leave a tip of between 15-20%.
Currently gratuities are not included within Disney Dining Plan packages and for budgeting purposes it's also worth remembering that parties of 6 or more Guests do incur an automatic 18% gratuity charge.
You'll be glad to know that at present gratuities are included within Disney Dining Plan packages at all Disney Dinner Shows, Private In-Room Dining and at Cinderella's Royal Table.
If I can help further plan your upcoming vacation to Walt Disney World Resort please pop back to ask me another question.
    Have a great Disney day.
