Hi there, Angelita - welcome to
planDisney!
First of all, I send EARly birthday wishes to your little Mouseketeer. He sure is lucky to get to spend his birthday with Mickey and his pals!
Savi's Workshop - Handbuilt Lightsabers is a unique experience for aspiring Jedi of all ages, and as one of the only places in the galaxy where you can craft your own lightsaber, it's quite popular with Guests. Unfortunately, essays, tricks, songs, or extra cash aren't going to help you secure a spot in the secretive workshop, but I do have some other suggestions that might help.
These reservations are first-come-first-served starting 60 days in advance, and based on my experiences, they are usually fully booked within that first day. The good news for you is that some Guests over-plan their days which means they need to make changes before their vacations. When these Guests cancel or modify their reservations, they are returned to the system and are available for other Guests to book. There isn't a waitlist of any kind, so I suggest checking availability whenever you think about it. I tend to see more of these openings starting a few days leading up to my visit as other Guests do a final review of their plans and make last-minute adjustments.
If that doesn't do the Jedi Mind Trick, I suggest making a
Park Pass Reservation for
Disney's Hollywood Studios on the date you want to visit the workshop. First thing in the morning, head to the workshop and speak to the friendly Cast Member to learn about any day-of options that might be available. Would it hurt to have a smiling newly minted 12-year-old wearing an "It's my birthday!" button standing next to you? Nope! You never know when some extra pixie dust will float your way, but I do want to reiterate that reservations are usually required. Keep a positive attitude, talk to Cast Members, and you never know what might happen!
While not the same experience, there are phenomenal lightsabers available for purchase, both in Disney's Hollywood Studios and at
Disney Springs. As a last resort, one of these would still make a great souvenEAR!
