    Do I really need to rent a car if staying in the magic kingdom? I will be doing the dining plan which will take me out of the magic kingdom.

    While a rental car may be convenient if you plan to take day trips outside of the Disney area, its definitely not critical.  

    Between the various Disney methods of transportation (monorails, buses, boats, etc) you can arrive at just about anywhere within Disney where the Disney Plan may be offered.    In addition, if you arrive via airplane, Disney even offers complimentary transportation to and from the airport.    Hope this helps!
