I was reading one of the answers about Genie and it said something about joining a virtual queue while someone in our party was purchasing Genie. Is the virtual queue different than getting your lightening lane selection? What is the virtual queue for?

    Hi Amanda, welcome to planDisney!

Virtual Queues are used at Walt Disney World for certain attractions or experiences instead of waiting in a standard stand-by line.  Currently, virtual queues are used for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic RewindTRON Lightcycle / Run – New!, and Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana.

There are two opportunities each day to request to join the virtual queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and TRON Lightcycle / Run:

    • 7:00 a.m. - you do not need to be in the theme park to join the virtual queue
    • 1:00 p.m. - you must be in the theme park where the attraction is located to join the virtual
      queue

An additional opportunity to request to join the virtual queue will be available at 6:00 p.m. on select dates during extended evening theme park hours.  This benefit is available to Guests staying at a Disney Deluxe Resort, Disney Deluxe Villa Resort, or other select hotels.

In addition to virtual queues, you can also purchase an Individual Lightning Lane for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and TRON Lightcycle / Run.

For Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, Guests can request to join the virtual queue beginning at 9:00 a.m. and must be in EPCOT.

To join a virtual queue, use the My Disney Experience app and select the "Virtual Queues" tile. This is where you find current information on what attractions and experiences are available for virtual queues.  Be ready to reserve your virtual queue at 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. as availability may reach capacity quickly.  You are allowed one virtual queue per attraction or experience per day.  When your boarding group is called to return, you’ll receive a notification via the My Disney Experience app. Please note that joining the virtual queue does not guarantee the ability to participate in the experience.

I hope you find this information helpful, Amanda!  Please let us know if there is anything further we can assist you with.
