I have read on another website that even if you get to MK early you may not be able to see the rope drop as they let guests who are staying at one of the Disney resorts in first. Is this correct? We are visiting in Oct but not staying at a resort.

    Hi Maria,

So long as you plan to visit the Magic Kingdom on a day when there are no morning Extra Magic Hours for Disney Resort hotel Guests, I cannot think of any reason why you would not be able to watch the opening ceremony.

You can check what days morning Extra Morning Hours are available by looking at the park calendar for the Magic Kingdom HERE for the dates of your stay.

I would plan to arrive at the entrance to the Magic Kingdom 45 minutes prior to park opening to catch the opening ceremony.

    Wishing you a magical holiday!
