I read in "The Unofficial Guide" that they wouldn't recommend staying at FW Cabins without a car. What do you think?

Hi Wayne!  We have now stayed at the Fort Wilderness cabins several times and have booked two more vacations for that location!  There is something about the peacefulness and quiet that attracts us to keep coming back.

When staying at the cabins it is really no different from staying at any other moderate resort.  You will need to use the internal bus system to get to the park buses but it is very easy and they are usually far less crowded then other resorts.  We never waited long for the park buses and your travel times are similar or even shorter for the most part.  Reaching the Magic Kingdom park is very easy as you simply take a boat launch from the marina for this nonstop trip.  You can also access two resorts, the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge, via boat launches.  For a special treat head to the beach during the night time Magic Kingdom fireworks as they will plug the music into the speakers and your views are quite good for this show.

If you can add an expense to your budget I highly recommend renting a golf cart during your stay. This will allow you not to depend on the internal buses to reach the different spots and they are also quite fun!  They don't move too fast but it's a great way to explore all the areas of Fort Wilderness on your own.
