Hello! I read about pet directions for fort wilderness but I’m looking for more info on what it’s really like to go there with a pet versus the other PF resorts. Can they walk around the resort with us? Does FW allow more freedom for them? (w rules still)

    Howdy Lauren!

Welcome to planDisney, the most magical place on the internet! I was so excited when I read your question today as I got to stay at The Cabins at Fort Wilderness with my own furry baby in 2019, and it was the best experience ever! You have also picked such a magical time to visit the Walt Disney World Resort with the 50th-anniversary celebrations in full swing. With all of these magical plans, I am sure you will have the best trip ever!

Enjoying the Disney magic while also having my best furry friend with me was such a memorable experience. I can happily say that my dog officially approved The Cabins at Fort Wilderness! She loved walking around the Resort with us and she even got to ride the boat to the Magic Kingdom. During our trip, my parents even rented a golf cart and brought the dog with them around the Resort. While dogs are not permitted in recreational areas, restaurants and pools, Fort Wilderness does have pet-friendly outdoor areas. If you do not want to leave your pet alone, the Resort is a quick four-minute drive away from the Best Friends Pet Care facility. The pet care facility offers daycare services with morning drop-offs and afternoon pickups, or overnight stays with a variety of packages and services available. Like other pet-friendly Resorts, you will receive your complimentary Pluto's Welcome Kit upon checking in. While Fort Wilderness's pet-friendly services and amenities might be similar to other Resorts, Fort Wilderness is known for being the ultimate dog retreat with its open nature spaces. We also felt more comfortable leaving our pup alone in our cabin than in a Resort hotel room where she might disturb the neighbours, so The Cabins at Fort Wilderness are the best pet-friendly Resort, in my opinion!

    Squirrel!

While your furry best friend is in your Cabin or getting the ultimate deluxe treatment at the Best Friends Pet Care facility, I would highly recommend planning a day to visit EPCOT's International Food and Wine Festival. Starting on July 14th, 2022, this year's edition of the famous Food and Wine Festival has been extended from its usual timeframe, offering you even more time to appreciate the delicious food options, the unique activities and the live entertainment! One of my favourite things to do during the EPCOT festivals is trying out the different culinary booths around World Showcase. Although we have not yet seen the menus for this year's festival, I highly recommend stopping by Earth Eats for the Beyond Burger Slider! With a slight kick from the wasabi and the fresh arugula, this burger slider is sure to please all meat-eaters and vegetarians.

I hope this was helpful, Lauren, and that you and your furry best friend will have the best day ever on your upcoming Disney vacation! If you have any other questions in the time leading up to your visit, or if the planning process is a bit "ruff," please don't hesitate to reach out. We are always happy to help, as quickly as paw-ssible.

Have a magical day and *bone* appétit!
