I read the Mom's Panel at least twice a day. It's the best place to get great advice!! We are going on our first cruise June 2012 to the Bahamas. Is the Flying Duchman still at Castaway Cay? My children (and myself) love Pirates of the Caribbean!

    Ahoy, Stanley!

Arrrggh! Some scallywag stole ye Flying Dutchman from Castaway Cay? Pirates, I tell ye!

From what I understand, Disney Cruise Line had the Flying Dutchman brought to the island around mid-2006 from the movie set, and it was understood that it was a prop -- not able to withstand the open sea without much maintenance. Therefore, for years, DCL guests took advantage of the photo op with the ship, and the decision was made in 2010 to dismantle it because of deterioration.

Yet, don't let it shiver your timbers, there's much piratical fun to be had on a Disney ship IN the Caribbean and on Castaway Cay! The famous Pirates IN the Caribbean Deck Party features the Buccaneer Bash, a buffet feast, Club Pirate and the only fireworks at sea. Guests don bandanas provided by the stateroom hosts/hostesses, and many bring additional attire on board with them.  You'll see swashbucklin' sea captains and plenty of crew with "pirattitude!" Plus, never fear, me hearty...there are plenty of mateys to spot on board and on the island --  such as Captain Hook and Captain Jack Sparrow.

So...no need to draw your sword, Stanley -- but it does get me thinking of where the Flying Dutchman's treasure might be hidden. Hmmmm....I might need a return trip to Castaway Cay! Thanks for the  compliment about our panel -- I'm glad you're a faithful reader! Let me know if you have more questions.

Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
