I have read about the Magic Band or card - we purchased 3day passes for a party of 10, not sure what benefit the bands have when not staying on the resort-can you expand on what the magic band provides to non resort ticket holders? Would I need 10?

Welcome, Theresa!  We are glad you brought your questions to us at the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

MagicBands and ticket cards perform many of the same functions.  Guests will need to scan either a MagicBand or a ticket card for admission to the theme parks, and to enter the FastPass+ entrances when redeeming their FastPass+ reservations.  Essentially, a MagicBand is a very convenient way to connect to theme park admission and other information in your My Disney Experience account.  I much prefer being able to scan the band on my wrist rather than digging in my pocket or bag for my ticket card.  That being said, a ticket card will work just fine for park entrance and access to the FastPass+ queues.

MagicBands or ticket cards are also used to connect your Disney PhotoPass photos to your account.  When having photos taken by a photographer, he or she will scan your MagicBand or ticket card to link your photos to your account.  Some attractions have on-ride photos and videos.  Guests who are wearing MagicBands will see their photos "automagically" appear in their account.  Guests without MagicBands can tap their ticket cards in the photo preview area at the attraction exit to link their photos.  There are a few attractions that do not have a photo preview area; only guests who are wearing MagicBands will be able to access those photos.

Guests who are staying at a Disney Resort Hotel may also use their MagicBands to unlock the door to their room, and can charge purchases to their room folio by tapping their MagicBand and entering a pin code at the register.

Each Guest who would like to use a MagicBand instead of a ticket card will need their own band; the MagicBand will link to their My Disney Experience profile and admission ticket.

I hope that helps!  Please feel free to visit the Moms Panel again with any additional questions you may have as you plan your Walt Disney World Resort vacation.  Enjoy your visit!
