Have read much about a "looong bus ride" at AKL, now I'm 2nd guessing our 1BR villa SV reservation @ AKL KV. Is the long bus ride worth renting a car? Or possibly changing resorts? Family of 5 (boys 6, 8, 10) need 2 baths, water slide @ pool is

    Hi Mindy!

Animal Kingdom Lodge is a wonderful resort that most guests absolutely love.  However, it is a little farther out compared to the other Disney hotels, especially with respect to the Magic Kingdom.  Of course, it is very close to Disney's Animal Kingdom.

If you think you will be going back and forth to your hotel during the day, then you might want to consider renting a car.  Having your own car is the fastest way to get around Walt Disney World.  However, if you will be leaving your hotel early in the morning and then not returning until you are ready to spend the night there, then I wouldn't worry about it.  The bus ride is longer than other bus rides, but not that much longer.  I think it really comes down to whether you plan on returning to your hotel for breaks, naps, etc.

By the way, the pool at the Animal Kingdom Lodge is spectacular.  It's a favorite resort of mine!  I hope this helps!  Write back if you have any more questions!
