I have read a few places to allow 45 mins to an hour to travel between resorts and parks. Does this apply only to those ridding the busses or is it a good rule for the monorail and personal car?

Hi Emily! The hour to hour and a half time to get from resort to resort is a good estimate when using any of the Disney resort transportation. The exception is for the monorail resorts that are connected in that loop.  The only caution when going from one to another there is that the monorails can get delayed and have break downs so still give yourself plenty of time.

Guests using personal cars can save a lot of time as it only takes up to about twenty minutes to get from any resort to another on property by car. The risk is parking once you arrive. During some months parking is a premium at resorts due to special events such as Food and Wine Festival in Epcot or convention groups. Even with dining reservations spots just might not be open so be prepared to possibly  park with the valets which is a $15 charge. You also are not allowed to leave cars parked at other resorts and then visit parks that might be nearby. Using your personal car for the resort dining is a great way to save time.
