Hi! I've read that eating at the California Grill is the best place to view the fireworks, however when reading info about it, it seems to me it's not kid friendly. Can kids (ages 6 and 5) dine there? I didn't see a children's menu or anything like that.

    Hi Dianne:

The California Grill is one of my favorite dining spots, and yes, kids can dine there. We love the food as well as the atmosphere, which includes panoramic views of the Magic Kingdom from atop the Contemporary Resort. If your timing is right, there are few better locations in all of Disney World to view the Magic Kingdom fireworks. While I would describe the restaurant as sophisticated, upscale, and romantic, the great news is that just about all Disney restaurants, including California Grill, are family and kid friendly and are well prepared to serve young children. Indeed, my family, including my young children, have eaten at California Grill, and every time I've dined there, I've seen families with children. While probably favored by adults more than kids, you can't call California Grill sleepy. The restaurant is decorated in vibrant colors and my boys were mesmerized watching the chefs at work in the open and active kitchen. My children were also given crayons and coloring pages, which kept them occupied for a while.

California Grill has a children's menu. If you want to take a look at a recent children's menu from California Grill, head over to allears.net, search for menus, and click on "California Grill - Child's Menu." Although subject to change, it looks like your children will have their choice of mac 'n' cheese, pizza, salmon, steak or chicken followed by crisped rice, chocolate pudding or vanilla ice cream with chocolate fudge sauce for dessert.

California Grill is such a wonderful dining experience that I would encourage you to give it a shot. If you think the restaurant may be right for your family but you still have some doubts, I would suggest bringing some small toys or books with you to distract your children, if needed. Also consider skipping coffee after dinner if it looks like your children need an exit.

    Enjoy your vacation.
