2 questtions. we have ad reservations at a couple of character meals..was wondering what is the appropriate gratuity for a family of 4? also my 12daughter would love a pocahontas costume to wear to ak..do other teens wear costumes or mostly younger guests?

    Hi Karen,

Thank you for visiting the moms panel.  Character dining is one of my family's favourite ways to dine while at Walt Disney World.  We try to squeeze in as many character dining experiences as we can on each trip, I'm sure you will have a great time!

When leaving gratuity, it is always a personal choice.  On your check, you will find suggested amounts of 18% and 20% near the bottom, in order to make it easier for guests to calculate the gratuity for their meal.  The amount suggested is not mandatory, it is simply meant as a guideline.  I do find that the service at any restaurant in Walt Disney World is wonderful, so my family does choose to follow the suggested amounts on the check, but again, it is a personal decision.

As for costumes, if your daughter wants to dress up, I say go for it!  The majority of children wearing costumes are younger, but I do see older children, teenagers and even adults wearing costumes throughout the parks.  Walt Disney World is a place where every day life is forgotten, and if wearing a costume will make your daughter happy, let her channel her inner princess!

I hope you have a wonderful vacation.  If you have any other questions, please let me know.  I would love to help make your vacation even more magical!
