Howdy, Dennis! Thanks for moseying over to the Disney Parks Moms Panel with this great question.
Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground has become one of our family's favorite places to stay. There's so much to do, it's just a boat ride from the Magic Kingdom Park, and of course, there are some fine vittles to be found there!
Trail's End breakfast buffet is a real treat. We've found that the food is just as good as much more expensive places on property. This is not a character meal, so if you don't mind missing Mickey and his friends, you can get a great meal for considerably less. We've been to Trail's End both with and without reservations, and honestly never had an issue either way. If you know the date and time you'd like to eat there, I'd say to make a reservation to be on the safe side. If you don't, you may have to wait a few more minutes to be seated, but I think you'll be fine.
Your golf cart has to stay on Fort Wilderness property, but traveling to Disney's Wilderness Lodge for a visit to Whispering Canyon Cafe is still a snap. Just drive your cart to the marina near Pioneer Hall and hop on board a boat across Bay Lake. If you're going over for dinner, I'd double check the operating hours of the boats to make sure they will still be running when you're ready to come "home."
Hope this helps you round up some fun at Fort Wilderness, Dennis. Let us know if we can help in the future.
Have a magical day!
Kathy K.
