Hi, just have a question. My sis and I are going to WDW this October. Any suggestions on scooter rentals?? I have slight mobility issues. Thanks.

Hello, Tamara. Welcome back to planDisney!

I see you love Disney as much as my fellow panelists and I do! And I am sure you are counting the days to your upcoming Walt Disney World Resort visit. Let’s jump right into your question to put your mind at ease about navigating the Theme Parks with a mobility issue.

Disney has made significant efforts over the years to ensure accessibility for as many guests as possible, including designing most attraction queues to accommodate those with mobility issues. At Disney World, you have two options for getting around the Theme Parks: a wheelchair or an Electronic Conveyance Vehicle (ECV)/Scooter. Both options are available for daily rental at the Theme Parks, subject to availability, and can only be used at the Theme Park where they were initially rented. If you plan to visit multiple parks in a day, you can take your rental receipt to the next Park to continue using the equipment, if available.

It’s worth noting that wheelchairs can be rented for the length of your stay but must still be returned before leaving each Park each day. For more convenience and to ensure availability, you might consider renting a wheelchair or ECV/Scooter from the Disney Featured Provider. These providers can deliver the equipment to your resort on the day of your arrival, allowing you to use it from your room and throughout the Parks, including on most complimentary transportation options. I suggest a quick internet search for scooter rentals near Disney World or contacting the featured provider at the bottom of the ECV rental page.

I hope this helps alleviate your concerns, Tamara. If you choose one of these options, a helpful tip is to bring a colorful ribbon, bow, or glow-in-the-dark bracelets to wrap around the handlebars of the wheelchair or scooter. This will make it easier to spot among others when you disembark from attractions and see a sea of strollers and scooters! If this is your first visit to Disney World, please submit me any more questions you may have. As a 30+ year visiting veteran, I have many recommendations for Disney Resorts Collection hotels, dining locations, and how to structure your days in the Parks.

    See you real soon!
