Hi...I have a question re: the basic DDP. I know you are entitled 1 TS, 1 QS and 1 snack per night of stay. My question is- can you substitute an appetizer for the entree item? Not order both, but get an appetizer item INSTEAD of an entree? Thank you!!

    Hi Amber!

Thanks for visiting the Moms Panel with your great question.

You are going to absolutely LOVE the convenience and flexibility of the Disney Dining Plan.
Substitutions on the Dining Plan are generally done on a restaurant by restaurant basis, at Manager's discretion or that of the Cast Member serving you when authorization is not necessarily required.

That being said, I have myself done exactly what you're suggesting that you'd like to do, many times, without ever having an issue. The only time you may encounter any issue or be told that you can't order an Appetizer as your Main Course, would be in a case where an Appetizer was meant to be for 2 people. So long as the item you wish to order is a single serving for one Guest to enjoy, you should be just fine! Simply consult the menu upon your arrival, and if an appetizer item best suits your tastes, let your server know what you're hoping to do and they'll let you know how they can accommodate your request.

When my daughter first became 'adult age' on the Dining Plan, and still ate like a bird, she'd frequently choose an Appetizer to enjoy as her main course.

I hope you'll write me back again soon with more questions about your upcoming vacation.
Wishing you a simply Magical time at Walt Disney World Amber!
