A question about Magic Bands. What can we do with the phone app vs. the band? I know we can unlock our door with the app, but what about park entry and charging purchases? What can we NOT do with the App that would require us to get a Magic Band? Thanks!

    Bright Suns, Douglas!

Welcome back to planDisney! Thank you for dropping by again!

Between MagicBands and the My Disney Experience Mobile App, I feel confident in our ability to use the Force for good. Indeed, on our most recent visit in December, we found our Resistance allies and escaped the First Order. It is my hope that you join the Resistance as well. With your MagicBand and Mobile App, you can access and acquire critical items necessary to ensuring your safe passage to Batuu!

Once you depart intergalactic transport and arrive at the Walt Disney World Resort, you will need to use your MagicBand or Admission Card to access each theme park or water park entrance (as long as you have valid admission, A Disney Park Pass system reservation as applicable, and the park is open). You also will need to use your MagicBand or Admission Card to scan with Disney PhotoPass photographers so that they can connect your photos to your My Disney Experience account. When staying at a Walt Disney World Resort, we use our MagicBands to charge meals and merchandise to our resort account folio. Those items are then charged to the credit card we have on file. As a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) member, I love that when we scan our MagicBand at park entrances, the scanner lights up purple to indicate that we are part of the DVC family!

With the My Disney Experience Mobile App, we use the Mobile App to check into our resort hotel online, unlock our Walt Disney World Resort hotel room door, review charges on our resort hotel folio, and make purchases as well as get directions, get estimated transit times on Walt Disney World transportation, and find attraction wait times. We can also easily track our tickets, Annual Passes, and plans. On our most recent visit, we loved using our mobile devices to scan digital codes for restaurant menus, use Mobile Dine Check-in to check-in for our advanced dining reservations, and access Mobile Food and Beverage Ordering when dining on the go. At Disney Springs, we used our mobile phone to access a virtual queue for World of Disney!

And now, back to saving the galaxy. Every Resistance ally absolutely must use the Star Wars: Datapad on Play Disney Parks Mobile App. We need new recruits who can translate galactic languages, hack into droids, and scan encrypted cargo. Use your skills to help the residents of Batuu and earn digital rewards along the way. Stay alert - we also currently use the Mobile App to access the virtual queue for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance!

Douglas, our Resistance forces need you. Should you choose to join the Cause, bring an active MagicBand and a mobile device. Rest assured; however, we can still use your help even if you do not have a MagicBand. Keep an eye on our website, operational updates and the Disney Parks Blog to learn about other features of the Mobile App and MagicBands

May the Force be with you as you plan!

    Good journey,
