Hi, My question is a lightning lane I have a member of our family that is quite large. If we buy a lightning lane for them and we get to the front of the line and they are told they won't fit in the car, Can we get a refund for that one ride?

    Hi Terry,

Welcome to planDisney and thank you for your question! How exciting to hEAR that you’ll be at the Walt Disney World Resort during the holiday season. I’m sure you’ll have a blast creating life-long memories with your family!

When it comes to Lightning Lanes, there are two options: the Disney Genie+ Lightning Lane and the Individual Lightning Lanes. With the Disney Genie+ Lightning Lane, you’re selecting rides from the list of Genie+ options within the My Disney Experience mobile app throughout the day. On the other hand, Individual Lighting Lanes are à la carte purchases and each guest is only permitted two per day. It sounds like you may be referring to Individual Lightning Lanes, but either way, I don’t believe there are refunds for Disney Genie+ or Individual Lightning Lanes once you purchase.

That being said, there are a few ways to go about this with your family. First, I would double check the ride restrictions on the attraction(s) you’re hoping to ride. For example, if the family wants to ride Avatar Flight of Passage (an Individual Lightning Lane attraction), check out the “Safety, Accessibility and Guest Policy” details for the ride on the Walt Disney World website. Follow this step for all the Individual Lightning Lane attractions you’re hoping to ride on during your trip and this will help determine if you should pay for an Individual Lightning Lane for that guest.

Once you’re on vacation, if you have a Park Hopper, maybe allot some time to go to the attraction and speak with a Cast Member (if time allows). In our example, Avatar Flight of Passage actually has a ride vehicle outside of the attraction where guests can determine their comfort levels! Not all the attractions have this, but speaking with a Cast Member at that ride might help determine the best plan prior to booking the following day(s) of the vacation.

In my experience, it’s best to book those Individual Lightning Lanes at one time for all family members, so if anyone doesn’t want to ride, when you’re booking, you’d be able to unselect their name so you’re not paying for their Individual Lightning Lane. With this in mind, it’s best to determine ahead of time if your family member will be comfortable riding or not based off of research, this way there’s no purchase if not needed!

I know that was a ton of information, but I hope this “Bit By Bryanna” is helpful as you prepare for your trip later this year. If you have any other planning or vacation questions, please feel free to reach out, I’m always happy to help!
