Question for those with Kids (my youngest are 2 and 6) with ASD, what do you recommend as far as hotels? Do i pay the extra for resort hotel or one of the good neighbor hotels with shuttle will be good enough?

    Greetings, Barbara!

That’s a question that we have struggled with for our children on the spectrum as well. Obviously, things would work out better for a given trip with the shorter walk and magical touches of a stay at one of the Disneyland Resort Hotels. So we try to stay at one as often as we can. But we also try to take into consideration our travel budget. The more we can save on hotel stays, the more often we can travel to The Happiest Place on Earth! So many of our hotel stays have been at Disneyland Resort Good Neighbor Hotels.

Every family has its own specific needs. For us, it is quick access to a cool, quiet, and comfortable place to take a nap. So the one thing that matters most to us is finding as convenient access as possible to the Disneyland Resort theme parks. That means a hotel that is within very easy walking distance. Obviously, that includes the three Disneyland Resort Hotels. We also include Good Neighbor Hotels that are across the street on Harbor Boulevard. And, as our children’s tiny legs have lengthened, we have expanded somewhat to hotels a little further away. Other folks may have different preferences. But for us, we tend to avoid locations that would require a mode of transportation other than our feet. That’s just so we can try to save some time as we go back and forth for those afternoon naps.

A Good Neighbor Hotel that we have stayed at several times now is the Springhill Suites Marriott at Anaheim Resort Convention Center. We like that their Kids Suites feature fun bunk beds so each of our children can enjoy their own physical space. Their roof-top pool that overlooks Disney California Adventure Park has also been a place where we’ve enjoyed making family vacation memories. Although it is not as close as the hotels on property, we consider it to be located within convenient walking distance to the theme parks.

I wish you good luck in making a selection of hotels for your visits to the Disneyland Resort, Barbara. Of course, you know what is best for your specific needs. But I hope that some of these thoughts and recommendations help you to consider the available options and make the choice that best suits your family.

    See ya’ real soon!
