Hi Mom's, I have a question involving spending money. Driving from NY staying at FW campsites, hubby and 3 daughters (2 -18 1-6) trying to budget for tips, groceries, spending money. Any suggestions?

Hi Erik! Fort Wilderness is one of my favorite places to stay and I think you will find it as exciting as I do!  I am not sure if you are staying at the tent sites or bringing your recreational vehicle but will try to assist you with some budget tips. You also did not mention how long you will be staying so figuring numbers is tough.

Since you will be driving I suggest you do most of your shopping when you arrive. We like to use the Winn Dixie that is located on Apopka Vineland road just outside the Downtown Disney area and a short ten minute drive from the Fort. To save on food costs try to eat all your breakfasts at your site and perhaps choose either lunch or dinner each day to prepare on your own. All sites come with a nice picnic table and a grill so it is easy to do. You are allowed to take food into the parks but you can't bring coolers so remember if it is hot this isn't always the best way to dine.

The only gratuities you might need to consider will be if you have table service dining reservations. Tips generally are around the 25-18% but it is at your discretion according to the service you receive at that time.

Spending money is always a big question with guests. Even at the campsites you can set up your key card to accept charging privileges making it easy to buy and not realize how much money you are actually spending. I suggest you purchase ahead of time some of the nice Disney gift cards for your children for a specified amount you are comfortable with. This will allow them to take the responsibility of shopping and buying the things they truly want and is usually makes them a better shopper knowing that when the card is used up the shopping ends as well.

Be prepared to dole out each day for some of the good snacks available. If you are wanting to participate in any of the recreation activities you will also need to consider the costs of those such as boat rentals and tours. Lots to think about!
