Hi Jill,
Thanks for stopping by planDisney! Right now, Blizzard Beach is
closed for refurbishment, and a re-opening date hasn't been announced, but it doesn't matter. You are going to have a splash-tastic time at either water park.
Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are both uniquely themed with fun for the whole family, from toddlers to teens. Whether you're looking for a daring adventure, or just want to float down a lazy river, Disney water parks have you covered.
Your Water Park and Sports option that you've added to your tickets will allow you to go to BOTH a water park and visit one of the four theme parks in the same day. You won't need to reserve the water park, but you will still need to
make a reservation for the park you plan to go to, even if your plan is to go to the water park in the morning and head to a theme park in the evening.
You mention having Genie. I'm not sure if you are referring to the FREE version of
Disney Genie that helps all guests plan their individual itineraries and offers suggestions to make the most of your vacation, or if you are referring to purchasing Disney Genie+ that allows you access to Lightning Lanes on over 40 attractions throughout Walt Disney World.
If you are talking about having Genie+, and if your plan is to go to a water park and then head to a theme park in the evening, I recommend booking your first Lightning Lane in the morning before you even head out for the day or while you're at the water park. Lightning Lane reservations show first available options, so you probably won't have to start booking at 7 AM, but you'll want to start checking, and when you see an opening for an attraction you want, go ahead and book it. Then, 120 minutes later, you'll be able to make a reservation for another attraction. That way by the time you get to the theme park, you will already be able to ride some of your favorite attractions without having to wait in long lines.
If you have the time, taking in a round of mini golf at
Fantasia Gardens or
Winter Summerland is a fun activity for a midday break or spending a relaxed evening outside of a theme park.
Hope this helps. Have a magical vacation!
Diane
