MagicBand+ and Smart Phone

Hi there! I just purchased a new Magic Band plus and I am so excited. I was wondering if it dies while I’m in the park (and let’s say I forgot the charger) am I able to bring my older magic band as a back up? Will it work or will it confuse my app? Thanks!

    Aloha Krislynn, welcome to planDisney!

I have a confession to make. I bring a lot of Minnie ears on my Walt Disney World Resort vacations. They have a special packing cube in my suitcase, which is the first thing I unpack at my hotel. I oftentimes change ears when I return to my Disney Resort hotel for a midday pool break. My husband says I have a problem. I say I have a collection.

I understand your question is about MagicBands, Krislynn, and you're probably wondering why I'm talking about Minnie ears, but I promise there's a connection. As you know, MagicBands are the magical accessories that let you tap in at theme park entry, with Disney PhotoPass photographers, at Lightning Lane entrances, and more. Like my Minnie ears, you are welcome to choose from any of the MagicBands you own each day, and you can even switch them out during the day.

My Minnie ears are stored in a packing cube. Your MagicBand and MagicBand+ are stored in your My Disney Experience account. Each MagicBand is connected to the same information (tickets, theme park reservations, dining reservations, etc). Take a look at the MagicBands and Cards page of your My Disney Experience account. All of your MagicBands and cards can be used interchangeably as long as they are listed as 'active.' For example, you can enter a theme park using your linked, paired, and fully charged MagicBand+. Later in the day, you can use your older MagicBand to access a Lightning Lane reservation.

The exact scenario you described in your question happened to me during my April trip, Krislynn. My MagicBand+ ran out of batteries as I was headed into EPCOT for dinner and I did not have the charger with me. In my case, I chose to use the Disney MagicMobile pass on my phone to enter the park, but I most certainly could have used the MagicBand 2 design I had back in my hotel room.

I hope this information gives you peace of mind and encouragement to proceed with your backup plan as described, Krislynn. Who knows, you may even find another MagicBand to add to your collection.
