Guests might be able to upgrade their theme park tickets by calling the
"Magic Key Holders" or "Tickets" lines. However, the
Upgrading a Disneyland Theme Park Ticket page currently states that if the ticket hasn't been used to enter a park yet, you will need to visit a Cast Member at the ticket booth to complete the upgrade. It can't hurt to call Disneyland to explore your options, though!
You could try upgrading in the
Disneyland app on the first day of your visit after you have entered a theme park (if that option appears under your tickets). I only recommend doing this in very specific situations, such as if Magic Key discounts are a high priority and your preferred
Magic Key pass is available for purchase (and isn't
blocked out on any day of your trip). You will also want to double-check that the pass still has reservation availability at the moment you purchase it. This route can be risky, since reservations are subject to change, and you don’t want to lose access to the parks if availability disappears before you can secure your Magic Key reservations.
My usual recommendation is to wait until close to midnight on the last valid day of your ticket to upgrade. This timing helps ensure your existing park reservations and Lightning Lane selections remain unaffected. Once your ticket becomes a Magic Key pass, your current reservations will most likely disappear, since they are tied to the original ticket.
After you have upgraded, you will purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass each time you scan into a theme park. It’s subject to availability, but in all my years as a Magic Key passholder, I have never had trouble getting it. Of course, don’t forget to explore all the wonderful
Magic Key discounts, and maybe even book a dining reservation at the charming
Magic Key terrace! It’s the perfect spot to share an appetizer and enjoy some delightful people‑watching!
