We purchased our cruise for Feb 2011 however I am not sure about reserving babysitting hours. My son doesnt go with strangers, cries when he sees new faces try to carry him. He will be 11 months at the time of our cruise. What's your advice?

    Hi Beverly,

I completely understand where you are coming from!  This can be a tricky age, and when the separation anxiety kicks in it can be heart-wrenching for you and your little one.  I also know that "this too shall pass", and a few months in the development of a baby can make a big difference in their social world.

What I would advise it to be prepared - for anything.  Go ahead and reserve space in the nursery, once you arrive you may be pleasantly surprised at how your child reacts.  The cast members that work in the nursery are simply amazing.  I had the opportunity for a behind-the scenes tour and was in awe of how wonderful and attentive the cast was - and how happy the babies were!  They counselors were on the floor playing and interacting with the children which was really nice to see.  The space itself is very kid friendly and inviting to the littlest of children.  They are accustomed to handling children that have never been in a daycare environment, and know how to set them at ease.  That being said, some kids simply are not ready for this experience, and that is okay!

So by reserving the space now - best case scenario is that your son adapts nicely to the environment and you enjoy some grown-up time.  If you wait, you may discover he is ready by February but the nursery may not have any space available.  Worst case scenario, he's just not ready - you may lose out on the fee for that session, but it really is worth a try.

    Good luck!
