I purchased the so cal resident 3 day tickets and I have the option in my app to upgrade them to a magic key. Will that go through since I purchased this type of ticket or will it take my money without giving me a magic key?

    Hi Alexander!

Welcome to planDisney! I'm happy to be your planEAR today!

Ooooh, I'm excited that you're thinking about becoming a member of the coolest club in California, Disneyland Resort's Magic Key program! Not only will this type of annual pass provide more Disney Days for you for a whole yEAR, there are all kinds of extra benefits, from shopping and dining discounts to special rates at the three Disneyland Resort Hotels just for key holders. And if you upgrade now, you'll even be set to take part in the very first Magic Key Celebration Month happening all February!

I'm happy to say, Alexander, that not only is your Disneyland Mobile App telling the truth, upgrading from a day or multi-day Theme Park Ticket to a Magic Key can pretty much only be done in the app right now as Ticket Booth Cast Members are still trying to limit in-person interactions as a social distancing measure.

There are just a few things to know about upgrading. The first is that by upgrading a Theme Park Admission Ticket that you already have, that initial ticket purchase amount will be applied to the amount owed for your Magic Key. You're welcome to upgrade an existing ticket at any time, however, this transaction must be completed by 11:59 P.M. on the last day of your current ticket's use. (In your case, by day three of your 3-day Southern California Resident Ticket.) However, by upgrading a multi-day ticket, any future Park Pass Reservations for that 3-day ticket will be impacted. (This is because day-ticket Park Pass Reservations and Magic Key reservations are allotted from different pools based on admission type.) So the workaround is to wait to make the upgrade until the last day of your current ticket's use. Lastly, keep in mind that the expiration date (or valid-through date) of your upgraded Magic Key will be the first day that you used the 3-day SoCal ticket, not the first day that use it as an upgraded key. (So if your original plan was to use the three resident ticket days sparingly, like one day in January, one day in March and the third in April, then your best bet would be to upgrade sooner rather than later.)

I hope that this helped to clEAR things up, Alexander! Be sure to follow the official planDisney Instagram account for all kinds of tips and tricks. And if you have any more Disneyland Resort or Magic Key questions, We're All Ears!
