Lauren from CT Asked Note: This answer was provided prior to the change to planDisney and may still contain references to Disney Parks Moms Panel.

When you purchase military promo tickets on a base, do they have the names of the travelers or the military members name? I heard there are no names so anyone would be able to turn that voucher in for the hard ticket once you arrive at the park.

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Lauren! It’s nice to hear from you again.

My military family is so grateful for the fantastic discounts we have access to when visiting the Walt Disney World Resort. The Military Promotional theme park tickets, resort hotel room discounts, and discounted Memory Maker are all great deals, and they make it so much easier for us to visit our happy place again and again. I really appreciate that the decision-makers at Disney understand how important together time is for our military families, and I know our photos and memories from our Disney trips are really special to my Mouseketeers when their dad is away from home.

You’re raising a great question, and I’m glad you stopped by to ask. Here’s how it works: when you purchase the Military Promotional tickets on your local base, you’re given "exchange certificates," which are kind of like cards with a ticket number attached. Those numbers can be used to link the tickets to each Guest’s My Disney Experience account so you’re able to make your FastPass+ selections in advance of your visits. These are not active tickets until you arrive at the Walt Disney World Resort and visit Guest Relations – at that time, the military member or their spouse must present a valid and active military ID in order to activate the tickets. The "hard ticket," which is linked to either a MagicBand or ticket card, is connected with a fingerprint, which is scanned with each theme park entry to ensure the Guest who purchased the ticket is the Guest using the ticket.

If you purchase theme park tickets from Shades of Green, the military member essentially signs a guarantee that they will be visiting with the Guests using the tickets. If you take a look at the fine print on the Military Promotional tickets, you’ll see that the service member or their spouse must be with the group using the tickets, and that they may only use 6 tickets per family per year.

I hope this helps clarify the safeguards around military ticket usage. As a very grateful military spouse, I sure hope there aren’t military members sidestepping the spirit of this great offer, because I would be so sad to see it disappear due to misuse.

Thanks for stopping by with another question, and please come back and see us if you think of more questions as you count down the days to your December visit.

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
