Hey there, Kristi!
Welcome to planDisney. My family has a trip booked right around the same time and we are all eager to enter the Grid and experience
TRON Lightcycle / Run during our visit. This attraction will utilize a
Virtual Queue system but you can access it by purchasing an Individual Lightning Lane entry as well. Both of these methods of entry are available using the
My Disney Experience App so be sure to download it and familiarize yourself with its features prior to your arrival.
If you aren't planning to begin your day at
Magic Kingdom Park but will be using
Park Hopper Option tickets to hop over after 2 p.m. on the day of your visit, you definitely want to try purchasing an Individual Lightning Lane to experience this attraction. While Virtual Queue timing details have not yet been released for TRON Lightcycle / Run, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind uses a Virtual Queue available beginning at 7 a.m. each day for guests with valid park pass reservations. A second opportunity to join the Virtual Queues at 1 p.m. requires guests to already be inside EPCOT to access a boarding group. So, if you'll be starting your day hanging with Andy's toys over at Disney's Hollywood Studios, or admiring the beautiful animals of Kilimanjaro Safaris at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, an afternoon Individual Lightning Lane entry is the best way to try to join Team Blue for a Tron race experience.
If you are able to successfully purchase an afternoon Individual Lightning Lane return window but are unable to enter Magic Kingdom Park due to capacity limits you'll need to speak with
Guest Relations that day. I spoke with a Cast Member who let me know that these situations are handled on a case-by-case basis so they couldn't advise whether a refund would be available or if Guest Relations might be able to offer assistance in another way. This would also be the case for Individual Lightning Lane entries purchased for attractions at the other parks.
I do want to mention that I have only ever personally experienced the parks closing due to capacity once at Magic Kingdom Park on Christmas Day a few years ago. This was only a temporary restriction and happened before the new
park reservation system was in place. I read of a similar instance during the 50th Anniversary of Magic Kingdom Park on October 1, 2021, but again, this was only a temporary pause. I don't believe any of the parks have closed due to capacity even on previously paused days like Christmas Day and New Year's Eve since the reservation system has been used. While I can't guarantee your experience on a particular day and considering that unseen situations can always arise, I'm hoping you won't experience any issues during your visit.
I hope this was helpful Kristi. Please come back and see us again with any additional planning questions. We'd be happy to help!
Wishing you magic and memories,
Amy
