If I purchase Genie+ for the 4 of us in my group, do we all have to go on the same rides? Two of the people are older so I am not sure they could navigate the Disney app on their own. Is there another alternative?

Hey there, Sheri! Thanks for visiting planDisney with your question. I love helping Guests with tips about using Disney Genie+, as it’s been a vital part of my visits and a great way to save lots of time not having to wait in long queues!

First, the group does not have to stay together. Disney Genie+ gives you access to Lightning Lanes, which are the shorter queues. You can make Lightning Lane selections for certain Guests only – it will ask you which Guests you’d like to make the selection for.

At least one Guest will need the Disneyland mobile app to scan the Lightning Lane passes once they arrive at an attraction. So, for your older Mouseketeers in the group, one way you could make it simpler is to make the Lightning Lane selections for them, so that all they need to do once they arrive at an attraction is go to My Genie Day, My Day, and click ‘Redeem’ for the Lightning Lane they are ready to use. There are very helpful Cast Members waiting to assist Guests at the Lightning Lane entrances, so I’m sure they could provide support to navigate the Disneyland mobile app to find the Lightning Lane passes if needed.

I recommend one of you take the lead to link all four tickets to your account, so you can purchase Genie+ service for the group and make the relevant Lightning Lane selections during the day. For the older Mouseketeers, as long as they have their own tickets linked to their accounts, if you make Lightning Lane selections for them, they will be able to access them from their app, as the Lightning Lane selection is linked to a ticket.

I know this sounds confusing, but it will all make more sense once you start using it! Here are a few more tips that might come in handy:

~ Once you make a Lightning Lane selection, you can make the next one either once the previous one is redeemed, or 120 minutes after selection, whichever comes first. For instance, at 9:00 a.m. if you make a selection for Space Mountain at 1:00 p.m., at 11:00 a.m. you can make your next selection, even though Space Mountain hasn’t been redeemed yet.

~ There are 3 attractions that have Individual Lightning Lanes for purchase separately. You can purchase these with or without Genie+. You’ll find the full list of Lightning Lanes and Individual Lightning Lanes here.

~ Genie+ gives you complimentary access to Disney PhotoPass! This is an awesome perk, as you can stop and get your photo taken at the various PhotoPass locations, and then get unlimited digital downloads. This also includes the photos taken on attractions. Be sure to ask the photographer about adding a Magic Shot to your photo!

Wishing you the magic carpet ride of a lifetime, Sheri! Have a blast!
